Project Overview:

This project was created for a Modelmaking class taught by Professor Josh Steadman. The goal was to design an environment and built a miniature scale model. This Jurassic dining experience is inspired by the majestic flying creatures from the Jurassic Era and its habitat. Guests are able to enjoy delicious food inside a Pterodactyl cage accompanied by the creatures.

Problem & Solution

I originally had the initial idea of using acetate to create the dome. However, it was difficult to hold the acetate together in a form of a cage. I overcome this problem by creating a geodesic dome instead of a circular dome. Geodesic dome is a hemispherical thin-shell structure based on a geodesic polyhedron. The triangular elements of the dome are structurally rigid and distribute the structural stress throughout the structure. The materials used to create the geodesic dome are card boxes, acetate, white spray paint, and glue.
